BEHAVIOR MANUAL:
Teachers and caregivers, spend time managing the behavior of children. In a childcare setting, they encourage behaviors that are appropriate and constructive and help children understand those behaviors that are unsuitable.

We manage behaviour every day. When a child has a temper tantrum, parents and guardians have to handle it in a suitable manner. Even though a parent may not have probably written it down, the manner in which the parent has handled a tantrum is his or her "behaviour management plan."

This Manual on ‘Behavioral Deviations in Preschool Children’, is a simple attempt to outline some of the more common challenging, demanding and difficult behaviors that caregivers face and suggests management strategies or ‘Behavioral Management Plans as well as Programmes’ that teachers, care-givers and parents can use while handling with difficult and tough behavioral situations, in children.

This Manual also brings to focus the special role of a preschool and the teachers, in observing and pointing out any such behaviors or behavioral traits that are not socially normal and that may at a later stage take the form of a behavioral deviation, in the child. Teachers and caregivers in school are in close contact with the child when he or she is away from the familiar and protective home environment and are neutral observers of the child when he interacts with others of his kind, in a definite social environment. They are therefore the first non-biased source of information with regard to the child’s nature and behaviour. Any special observations made by them, can go a long way in addressing the needs of a child who is showing divergence in behaviour.
PERFORMANCE DEVIATION MANUAL:
When the development or academic performance of a healthy child, consistently fall short of what is expected at his or her age; there is a ‘performance deviation’. Sometimes, a child may be going through a passing phase of non-performance. However when this passing phase, becomes prolonged and the child exhibits the same performance levels that fall short of the norm, then parents and teachers need to closely analyze various factors that may have influenced his behaviour and performance.

Although children's growth patterns vary, uneven development or significant delays in development are signals that must not be ignored. Learning behaviors influence a child’s educational outcome hence it is essential that these problems are addressed before the child enters primary school. Early identification of preschoolers with learning and behavioral needs is imperative.
INTRODUCTION:

Celebrating different days in the early years help the young children to grow in their understanding of the sensitivity to the physical and social forces at work around them so that they could development the ability and skill to cope with and to manage their futures.

These experiences help children to function as members of social groups such as family, community and the world. The aim and functions of celebrating these days are as follows:

  1. To develop understanding of importance of co-operative group living and other social values.
  2. To broaden the child’s social environment by providing opportunities to live, play and work with other children and adults.
  3. To explore the child’s interest in the environment at home, school and neighbour hood and to stress the dependency.
  4. To help the child understand the interdependence of parents, siblings, teachers, neighbours, community, helpers and how could he / she help others.
  5. To expand the child’s horizon of the world by understanding the home, community, state, nation and the world and the ways of living.

Celebrating days provides experiences that are concerned with behaviour, goals, values, skills and the knowledge needed to bring about change.
